Stayton Law’s Beginning

In 1925, George R. Duncan, Sr. graduated from Willamette University School of Law and opened a solo practice in Stayton, OR.

Mr. Duncan practiced law for 14 years until he was elected to serve as State Representative for Marion County. Mr. Duncan served two terms in that capacity. In 1942, Mr. Duncan was elected as a judge on the Marion County Circuit Court, where he served for 23 years. During part of that time, Mr. Duncan served as a Pro-Tem Justice for the Oregon Supreme Court.

WHAT CAME NEXT?

  • George's son, George R. Duncan, Jr. (“Rich”), graduated from Willamette University School of Law in 1955 and opened a solo practice in Stayton, OR. After retiring from the bench in 1965, Duncan, Sr. joined Rich’s practice and the partnership, Duncan & Duncan.
  • In 1971, following service in the Navy and graduation from the University of Oregon School of Law, James D. Tiger (“Jim”) joined our law firm.
  • George R. Duncan, Sr. received a certificate from the Oregon State Bar for 50 Years of Service in 1975. He continued to practice until his death in 1981.
  • The firm has been in its current location at 582 E. Washington Street since 1993.
  • Jim’s daughter, Jennifer L. Tiger, graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law and joined our law firm in 1999.
  • In 2005, Rich received a certificate from the Oregon State Bar for 50 Years of Service.
  • Jim passed away on July 4, 2009. Rich passed away in 2018 at the age of 90.
